Second Terrapin Independence Day 2006
The Second Terrapin Independence Day was held on the 9th of September 2006, officiated by YB Dato’ Haji Muhatar bin Abdullah, the State Secretary of Terengganu and hosted by Sekolah Kebangsaan Penarik, an elementary school in the area. A total of 40 microchipped two-year old river terrapins were released at Tebing Pasir Penarik, major nesting bank for the terrapins along the Setiu River. As before, educational activities were held in the school to create awareness among the school kids and hampers were given away to egg collectors who had participated in the terrapin recovery project by selling eggs collected for incubation.
