It depends on the species. Green turtles are mostly herbivorous, feeding mainly on sea grass and sea weeds, but may occasionally grab a jellyfish or two. The remaining species are mostly carnivorous.
The leatherback turtle can dive to great depths. Leatherback turtles equipped with depth recorders dove to over 1,000 meters deep!
Turtles don’t have any “outer ear” — the part that sticks out from your head, but they have all the “inner ear” mechanisms that other animals do.
Most turtles, including the marine and freshwater species lay eggs on land as they need the warmth to incubate the eggs.
Barnacles can cover the turtle to such an extent, that they can disable the flippers and cover the eyes and nostrils to such an extent, that the turtle is unable to swim, see, smell, or even survive.
In mature turtles, differentiation lies in the size of the tail – a long and thick tail in males that in marine turtles, extend beyond the length of the hind flippers.
