3 terrapins released

Another three juvenile river terrapins were released into Sungai Setiu yesterday under the state’s first river terrapin tracking project.

Pupils enjoy turtle camp

The children gathered excitedly around the table, admiring the marine life figures made out of plasticine. Most of them were turtles — a turtle laying eggs, a turtle swimming in the sea and a hatchling crawling out of its egg.

First success for terrapin tags

The state’s first ever river terrapin tracking project has got off to a good start. A three-year-old terrapin was tagged with an ultrasonic tracking device on Monday, and it was found the following day about 200 metres upstream from where it was released at Pak Lah Teh.

For the first time in the state, river terrapins will be tagged with ultrasonic tracking devices to monitor their behaviour.

No to turtle, terrapin eggs campaign

While many are busy preparing for the general election, a different type of campaigning is taking place at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. The university’s Turtle Research and Rehabilitation Group has launched a “Say NO to Turtle and Terrapin Eggs” campaign aimed at discouraging the public from eating the eggs.
