I have just returned from a 3-day Student Conference on Conservation Science (SCCS) at the University of Cambridge, UK. I was also fortunate enough to be awarded a bursary, which means that my return air tickets, accommodation and food were all provided for! :D
Binjai, Kg. Pasir Gajah dan Kg. Dadong.
A brief write-up on our new river terrapin project in the Kemaman River
We would like to announce our newest campaign: “Help Buy A River Terrapin Egg”. Each river terrapin egg costs RM 5 and monies raised from this campaign would be used to purchase terrapin eggs in the Kerteh and Kemaman Rivers.
We are now conducting questionnaire surveys with fishermen who live in villages along the major rivers in Terengganu. So far, we have interviewed more than 70 fishermen in 7 rivers–Keluang, Marang, Merchang, Paka, Dungun, Kerteh and Kemaman Rivers.
As part of our project to “Elevate survival prospects for the critically endangered southern river terrapin of Terengganu, Malaysia, through research, conservation, local community participation, public outreach and education,” we have proposed to conduct a Turtle Awareness Program in 15 local primary schools in the state of Terengganu.
