Gerald and Guundie Kuchling @ TCC

Our good friends Gerald and Guundie Kuchling were with us @ TCC in Mangkuk from 6-11 May 2010. They arrived on the same evening Pelf and I got back from India, so you can imagine how hectic it has been for us.

Gerald is a world-acclaimed turtle reproductive biologist. He has been collaborating with us on studies related to temperature dependant sex determination in river terrapins since 2004. This time around, 66 individuals of 10-month old river terrapins were sexed using laparoscopy. These terrapins were hatched in 2009 and had been incubated in open-air sand-nests in the ground. Results were interesting as a combination of male and female terrapins were found.

Guundie conducted an art workshop for the kids of Mangkuk. It was a lot of fun, as described by Pelf in our TCC Facebook page.
