In an earlier blog post, I had indicated that our first river terrapin nest was deposited on 28th January 2009. After one and a half months, we have managed to procure only 12 nests through Lina at Kampong Mangkok and an additional three at Kampong Banggol, with Ropi helping us out there.
Shortly after I got back from Redang on 2nd March, I received a call from Mr. Tong of Sekolah Menengah Kepong Baru informing me of his intention to bring a group of 88 students and teachers/facilitators to visit Chagar Hutang (CH) on the 8th of March.
Our first trip for the year to Chagar Hutang was made from 27 Feb – 2 March. This was to check out the monitoring work started in January, to plan renovations to the ladies quarters to accommodate for the increased volunteer intake this year and to see how our outdoors posters (designed by our Canadian volunteers) could be displayed.
We took to the road from 16 – 120th February to visit the Sam Poh Tong and Kek Lok Si Temples in Ipoh and Penang to inventory turtles kept in the temple ponds.
